Extinguishing Media –Use Dry Chemical, foam, or carbon dioxide.

Special Fire Fighting Procedures – Water may be ineffective but can be used to cool containers exposed to heat or flame.  Caution should be exercised when using water or foam as frothing may occur, especially if sprayed into containers of hot, burning liquid.

Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards – Dense smoke may be generated while burning.  Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and other oxides may be generated as products of combustion.

Health Hazards (Acute and Chronic)

Acute: Excessive inhalation or ingestion may produce symptoms of central nervous system depression ranging from light-headedness, to unconsciousness and death.  Overexposure may result in liver and kidney damage.  Exposure of the eyes and skin may produce irritation.  Animal exposed t high levels have shown cardiac sensitization.

Chronic:  Can cause headache, mental confusion, depression, fatigue, loss of sense of balance, and visual disturbances.  Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause dermatitis.

Signs and Symptoms of Exposure:

Eyes—An irritant of the eyes, causing pain, lacrimation and general inflammation.

Skin—Mildly irritating to skin.  Skin contact may produce a burning sensation.  Prolonged or repeated contact may cause skin to become reddened, rough, and dry due to the removal of natural oils and may result in dermatitis.  May be absorbed through the skin although not expected to produce toxicity through this route.

Inhalation— Excessive inhalation may produce symptoms of central nervous system depression, ranging from light-headedness, nausea and vomiting, to unconsciousness and death.

Ingestion— May cause irritation of the gastrointestinal tract with vomiting.  If vomiting results in aspiration, chemical pneumonia may follow.  Absorption through the gastrointestinal tract may produce symptoms of central nervous system depression ranging from light-headedness to unconsciousness.

Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated –None Known

Emergency and First Aid Procedures.

Eyes—Irrigate with flowing water immediately and continuously for 15 minutes.  Consult medical personnel.

Skin—Wash off in flowing water or shower.

Inhalation—Remove to fresh air.  If not breathing, give artificial respiration.  If breathing is difficult, qualified personnel should administer oxygen.  Call a physician or transport to a medical facility.

Ingestion— Do not induce vomiting.  Call a physician and/or transport to emergency facility immediately.

Section VII – Precautions For Safe Handling and Use

Steps to be Taken in Case Material is Released or Spilled.

Clean up area by mopping or with absorbent materials and place in closed container for disposal.  Consult Federal, State, and local disposal authorities.

Waste Disposal Method – Consult local authorities for proper waste disposal procedures.  Empty de-pressurized containers can not be reused.  Cans which are pressurized or contain liquid must be disposed of in a permitted waste management facility.  Consult Federal, Stte, and local disposal authorities for approved procedures.

Precautions to be Taken in Handling and Storing –

Do not store at temperatures above 120ºF.  Odor is not an adequate warning of potentially hazardous concentration in air.  Releases of these gases may cause a flammable atmosphere with explosion potential.

Other Precautions – KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

Section VIII – Control Measures

Respiratory Protection (Specify Type) – When vapor concentrations exceed the recommended exposure limits, a NIOSH approved organic vapor cartridge or air-supplying respirator should be worn.
