Signs and Symptoms of Exposure:

Eyes— Causes severe burns.  Prolonged and repeated contact can cause blindness.

Skin—Causes severe burns and is destructive to tissue.

Inhalation—Can cause severe burns and complete tissue perforation of mucous membranes of the mouth, throat, esophagus and stomach.

Ingestion—Can cause severe burns and complete tissue perforation of mucous membranes of the mouth, throat, esophagus and stomach.

Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated –N/A

Emergency and First Aid Procedures. 

Eyes— Flush out immediately for at least 20 minutes with running wter and seek medical attention.  Washing eyes within one minutes is essential to minimizing eye damage.  Hold eyelids apart to ensure flushing of the entire surface.

Skin— Immediately wash with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.  Remove contaminated clothing and footwear and wash before reusing.  Seek medical attention.

Inhalation— Move person to fresh air and away from exposure.  If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen and seek medical attention give artificial respiration if victim is not breathing.

Ingestion—Never give anything to an unconscious person.  If swallowed, do not induce vomiting.  Give large quantities of water or milk.  If vomiting occurs, keep airways clear.  Seek medical attention.

Steps to be Taken in Case Material is Released or Spilled.

Eliminate all ignition sources (no smoking, flares, sparks or flames in immediate area0  Stop leaks if you can do it without risk.  Do not touch damaged containers or spilled material unless wearing appropriate protective clothing (rubber boots and gloves).  Contain spills with dry earth, san or other non-combustible material and transfer to containers.  Sweep up powder spills and transfer to containers.  Do not get water inside containers.

Recommended Waste Disposal Method – The materials resulting from the clean up may be hazardous waste and, therefore, subject to specific regulations.  Package, store, transport, and dispose all clean up materials and any contaminated equipment in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local health environmental regulations.  Shipments of waste materials are subject to manifesting requirements per applicable regulations.  Ensure that all responsible federal, state and local agencies receive proper notification of spills and disposal methods.
